Decide between a drawer lock, a door lock and a knob-style body, then measure the thickness the lock has to pass through.

Drawer locks and door locks look alike but latch differently. A drawer lock throws a bolt into the frame as the drawer closes. A door lock catches the edge of a swinging door or a strike plate. Knob-style desk locks replace the handle and the lock in one part. If you are swapping an old lock out, measure it first: barrel length and cutout matter more than the brand on the drawer front.
